This book gives
a fascinating story about Broxburn’s senior football teams. It’s hard to imagine
the scenes of thousands of local football supporters streaming to the various
football grounds in Broxburn to see their heroes in action on Scottish Cup day.
If playing away from home special trains would be laid on where 600 to a 1000
supporters was not an unusual sight as they made there way up to the towns
Drumshoreland Station.
Broxburn clubs
proved tough opposition to the likes of Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, Dundee,
Motherwell to name but a few, in their quest for Scottish Cup glory. It’s hard
to imagine a Broxburn side reaching the semi final stages at
Hampden
Park, only to lose to the eventual winners.
League matches
also brought a great deal of excitement with teams such as Dundee United,
Dunfermline Athletic and St Johnstone all visiting Broxburn in search of league
points.
For the
statistically minded, every league and Scottish cup-tie is recorded as well
local competitions.
Also covered in
this book are senior teams from Uphall and Winchburgh, not forgetting of course
details of junior football.
